June 2011 Kansas Home Sales Continue to Fall

Kansas home sales dropped by 14.8% percent in June 2011 compared to June 2010, according to new figures published by the Kansas Association of REALTORS®. Sales totaled 2,990 units in June, down from 3,511 units in 2010. In comparison, sales on a national level declined 8.8% for the month.

Across the state there were 19,665 active listings at the end of the month. Supply of new and existing homes on the market is about 6.6 months.

The state-wide average purchase price last month was $165,608, compared to $167,426 in June 2010. This signifies a loss of 1.1%. The state-wide median purchase price last month was $145,000 compared to $149,950 for the same period of time last year. As reported by the National Association of REALTORS®, the median home price in the Midwest decreased 5.3% to $147,700. The nationwide median existing home price was $184,300 which is 0.8% above last year.
