Teaching You Real World Kansas City Real Estate

Hi! My name is Todd Carrison. Thank you for being a part of my community!
In writing this blog, I intend to show you what real estate agents don't want you to know. So where did I come from and how can I do this? Here's a little of my real estate history:
I learned the real estate business for my dad who has been in the business for more than 35 years. I have been a successful real estate agent having sold more than 1,000 homes during the 15 years I have been involved in real estate. I've taken a real estate company from 1 agent to 50 agents in under 18 months and have been a broker of one of the largest real estate firms in my area. (I talk about this in Size Doesn't Matter)
After leaving a large, fast growing real estate company, people started asking me why I would do such a thing. For me the answer was simple. I simply didn't like how real estate agents were treating the company's clients. No matter what I did, the agents would not educate themselves on how to best protect the clients largest asset, YOUR home. Since you're paying the agent(s) paycheck no matter what side of the transaction you are on (buyer/seller), in essence, you're the employer. Employers expect a return on their investment, you should be no different.
I think it's time for a change. It's my belief it will be easier for you to learn what to expect from your hired help!
Three Basic Principals of a Successful Salesperson
Successful real estate salespeople are hard to find. I believe there are three basic factors involved in a successful sale:
Heart of a teacher. Real estate contracts have become very complicated over the past few years. The agent you hire MUST be able to teach you what you need to know in a very short period of time. If an agent has been in the business for less than 5 years, my experience show me they don't know enough knowledge to be able to teach you what you NEED to understand.
Market Knowledge. The only way you can make a qualified decision is by gaining information from someone who understands what going on in the real estate market TODAY as well as the possibilities of tomorrow.
Negotiation Skills. The only way to get this skill is by experience. Experience is not simply going to school/college, getting a referral from a friend, or going to a couple extra continuing education classes; it's actually proving what you have done in the past to the present.
I write about these three principals on KCHomesForSale.com often, integrating my personal experience as much as I can, even when my personal experience is hasn't been 100% successful.
